about osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. An osteopath will asses many aspects of the body, such as the way it moves as a whole, the way the individual joints move, and the way the bodies tissues feel, as well as taking into account a persons lifestyle and the environment within which they live. This allows a picture to be built up of the stresses that a body is under and the way the body has responded to these stressors. The osteopath will then treat any areas of dysfunction through physical manipulation, stretching and soft tissue mobilisation , as well as giving advice on posture and exercise, to restore the correct function to the movement of the body. This will allow damaged and strained soft tissue to heal as well as improving the health of the body as a whole.
All Osteopaths are by law registered with the General Osteopathic Council, and it is illegal to be called an osteopath without being registered with this council and without graduating from a 4 year full time degree course.
